Salt and Pepper trick

Sill level: Easy

Requirements: Salt shaker, Pepper shaker, comb, (you also need to not be bald)

How you show the trick: Shake some salt and some pepper on the table and announce that you can remove the pepper from the salt without touching either the salt or the pepper. You do so.

How you do the trick: You do as above without telling anyone that you have a comb you are going to use for the trick. After making the announcement you pull out the comb. You can say that you need to look good for this trick as your reputation may depend on this amazing bit of magic and there could be paparazzi’s around the corner ready to take a photo of this latest sensation in the magic world. After combing your hair you say that a real magician makes use of regular objects and does not rely on fancy wands, though they can be used if necessary. You suggest that even the comb you are holding can be an instant magic wand. You wave it over the mixture of salt and pepper and instantly the pepper jumps onto the comb.

Why it works: The comb gets charged with static electricity when you comb your hair. The pepper is attracted to this charge and will jump onto the comb when you pass it over your mixture.

Look out: Make sure there is no wind, or breeze blowing over your salt and pepper mixture or you will have a sneezing fit from the pepper getting into your nose.
